Advent Day 14
I was going to write out the full lyrics to This Christmas but it's getting old even for me.
I have this fear…
That if I approach the world with too much earnestness, I’ll get my ass handed to me on a daily basis. So like any normal person, I’ve spent my life building defense mechanisms to mitigate that. What do you think this whole crush thing is about? Obvious cry for help, innit?
So this year, sheltered away from the probing eyes of nosy people like friends and family selflessly invested in my wellbeing, I’ve been doing “me work.” What am I so afraid of? And what is keeping me from opening my heart to the world?
I found my answer in a little show called Oh Jerome, No, in which a young man named Jerome lives with his heart busted WIDE open. And it’s hell for him. I know dating in New York has a reputation but godDAMN is Jerome put through the ringer.
Oh Jerome, No benefits from a few things: it’s quick—eight roughly 10-minute episodes—it’s absurd, and it stars the exceedingly crushable Mamoudou Athie (hahaha help me!)
You can watch Oh Jerome, No on Hulu. But you can also get ur rox off to these FREE clips from the show, available on YouTube here and here and here (that last one features Natasha Lyonne!!).
